Aloe has so many wonderful health benefits (from digestive repair to anti-aging) so I snuck a chunk in my green juice today.
I’ve been juicing for a couple years now—and I LOVE it! It makes me feel so good!
When I first started, I had to add in various fruit—oftentimes green apples—to add enough sweetness for me to enjoy it. After all, it’s about creating a pleasure link with fun, healthy habits like juicing has been for me. Overtime, I was able to reduce the fruit until I was able to completely cut it out (and still love the taste of my juice). Yay!
Why in the world should you limit fruit juice?
Because it’s basically sugar (aka fructose) without any fiber bits from the actual fruit and those fiber bits are what slows down its digestion and reduce blood sugar spiking. Increased blood sugar means your body goes into fat storing mode. And goodness knows, I do NOT want that. And neither should you. Your optimal health and wellbeing is centered around balanced blood sugar and a healthy gut (aka digestive tract, colon, intestines, second brain, etc.)
Simply put, it’s SO MUCH BETTER FOR YOU to have the WHOLE FRUIT instead of just the fruit juice.
But don’t go beating yourself up if you need some added sweetness in your green juice. Like I said, I used to be there too and Green Apples are a great way to help with that WITHOUT SPIKING your blood sugar so high. Try to reduce how much apple you need with each and every juice you make. Overtime your taste buds will adapt and you’ll enjoy juices that are less sweet. Not to mention how ah-mazing you’ll feel simply from adding these healing veggie juices to your healthy, crazy, beautiful lifestyle journey.
If you can’t juice every day then simply do it whenever you can. I like to juice once and get a good 2 or 3 servings out it (which is totally an option for you too). I try my best to drink a veggie juice at least 5 times a week—especially if I’m feeling “off.”
There’s no perfect formula, just do what works best for you and your body. Keep it simple, fun, and exciting. That’s what a healthy, crazy, beautiful lifestyle is ALL about!
Refreshing Aloe Green Juice
(Opt organic as much as you can. If you can’t go organic, wash your produce in hydrogen peroxide to reduce the chemicals)
What You Need:
1 bunch celery
1/3 head of romaine lettuce
1 inch ginger cube
1 large chunk aloe (peeled)
1 green apple (optional for added sweetness–I skipped this step)
What You Do:
Put everything through your juicer except aloe. Take the veggie juice and aloe chunk and toss in blender until aloe is smooth. I like to shake mine with ice and then pour in my fave glass to chug down. Garnish with a mint or basil leaf. Cheers!
